I love this quote by Albert Einstein, which applies to writing as well as science. "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it enough."
This quote is true about most forms of writing, including the journalism and screenwriting I engage in.
When you're not writing, just thinking or mopping or relaxing, you're digesting. So stop excoriating yourself for being lazy or uninspired.
Who are your characters? What's the conflict? Once you grasp the subject fully, you can blurt out your story effectively. i Any writerly touches are the icing on the cake.
