"A little bit of this. A little bit of that. A pot, a pan, a broom, a hat. . ."—Anatevka, "Fiddler on the Roof." This is a blog about everything and nothing. A little parenting, a little humor, some poetry, news, essays, a lot of music. I don't want to waste your time, just send positive vibes into the blogosphere. Oh, yeah, my name is Sarah Torribio. Enough about me, how are you?

Song of the Day: "Around U" by MUNA
I just looked it up and discovered that the band MUNA is an American dark pop/electric pop. Which doesn't explain the sort of Swedish/Cocteau Twins feel to the vocals, as if the lead singer hails from an imaginary Nordic country.
I found my song of the day, MUNA's "Around U," while browsing on letsloop for music similar to Pale Waves. The latter group is a band that I love based on the two songs I've heard. I said my knowledge of music was broad, I never said it was deep. But with so much good music around, all you can do is try to keep up.
Now this probably revelatory of my troubled psyche but I was hearing one of the recurring lines as "I'm no longer evil around you," which I thought was kinda cool. Combating recidivism through love. However, it's more of a classic breakup sentiment: "I no longer revolve around you." Burn!

Song of the Day: "Nothing's Gonna Hurt You, Baby"
The atmosphere in this song is as thick as pea soup! My song of the day is "Nothing's Gonna Hurt You Baby" by Cigarettes After Sex.
I'm told by the group's website that it's an ambient pop group based out of Brooklyn, NY and formed in 2008. That's great. I only have a decade's worth of their music to catch up on!
Song of the Day: "Jumping Someone Else's Train" by The Cure
And I'm like, "Don't go! I'm trying to get nostalgic."

Song of the Day: "Sway" by the Kooks
<<last song
>>next song
"Sway" by the Kooks is a compelling and sexy slice of pop rock.
The band, I'm told, was formed in 2004 in Brighton. That would explain the accent, which I'm digging. It's like the Arctic Monkeys. Which came first, the cockney accent or the excellence? And does it even matter?

Song of the Day: "Furious" by Jade Bird

Singer Jade Elizabeth bird is actually English, despite the title of her debut EP which came out in 2017: "Something American." I'm going to add her to my long musical list of "people to look into."

Song of the Day: "Fog," by The Ophelias
<<last song
>>next song
I'm really enjoying my second sonic introduction to The Ophelias, the song "Fog." According to the band's bandcamp page, the quartet is from Cincinnati, Ohio. So cool to see all the places indie rock emerges.

Song of the Day: "Don't Leave It In Our Hands" by The Essex Green
<<last song
>>next song
"Don't Leave It In Our Hands" by The Essex Green is good snappy indie rock music with a nice baseline and catchy vocals only touched by ennui.
This trio, who look endlessly cool, have a brand-new album called Hardly Electronic. A quick spin through the world-wide web tells me that the group is an indie rock band from Brooklyn and that they released their first album in 1999.

Song of the Day: "Not Sorry" by Off Bloom
<<last song
I'm enjoying a song called 'Not Sorry" by Off Bloom.
One of my pals on Letsloop looped this and I'm digging on it. I'm told by the internet that Off Bloom is an Ango-Danish group of three producers that formed in 2015. I'm interested to hear more of what they have to offer.

Song of the Day: "Lost My Mind" by Lily Allen

Oh, Lily, you taffy-sweet, cool AF girl. You always grab me, despite myself. This is some wistful pop that sounds like it was produced by Phil Specter using music boxes from Gepetto's studio.
My song of the day is "Lost My Mind" by Lily Allen.

Song of the Day "Corduroy" by Pearl Jam
<<last song
>>next song
Listening to "Corduroy" by Pearl Jam provides a direct time machine to my early adulthood.
Beyond the sonic resonance, I now see there are some brilliant lines: "Everything has chains/absolutely nothing's changed/ Take my hand not my picture/ spill my tincture . . ."
