Confession: I used to hate it in the '70s and '80s when a character designated as popular on sitcoms got a special round of applause and cheers when they entered the set. They were often characters I found somewhat annoying.
Take Wylona from "Good Times." I mean, she was a kick, but did she really cause viewers to act as thought they had Beatlemania?
